My protective style for this week
I have decided to do a bun challenge with myself. So my hair is in a bun this week again. Over it I put a braided bun that I had made with a pack of kanekalon braiding hair. I will put up pictures of it before the week is out, so you can see it.
Shea Butter
I have sourced Shea butter in Jamaica!!! You have no idea what a great thing that is to me! I will be getting some this week to make my own products and use on my skin, I will let you know how that goes..They only have the yellow one and That concerns me just a little. As I have been hearing something about this not being the best. But it is what's available to me and in my opinion; any Shea butter is better than none at all :) With the black soap that I now have and the shea butter, my skin and hair regimen will be significantly made easier as these two things will be staples for both...as long as the Shea butter works how I am expecting to. Hope I am not expecting too much.
p.s.
The one in the picture is the one I speak of
Raw Black Soap
I tried raw black soap as a shampoo this past weekend and it did well. This is my first time trying black soap over all. But with the benefits it is said to have , I will be looking forward to using it many more times in the future.
It does not have a fragrance (of course it is all natural) and I will be honest It does make my skin dry when I am done with it.But, moisturizing after solves that problem. As for my hair, it felt clean yet soft. I like that a lot. Though that may be contributed to my pre-poo with honey, coconut oil and VO5 Moisture milks conditioner. This is a great deep conditioner by the way.
When I used the black soap to wash my hair, all I did was wet my hair, lather the soap in my hands and use my fingers to massage my scalp with it. I kept repeating this until all my scalp had been done. After doing that, I smoothed it over my hair and washed it out. I don't want soap to be on the length of my hair strands too long and dry them out.

Protective style this week.....with pictures!!!! Got my cam :D Awesome stuff
I did the same style that I had told you about last week. But at least now you get to see it!! I am just really excited to have a camera now, because I have not been following my journey well, except mentally. Now I will be able to look back at pictures when my hair stretches down my back. lol. Well, that is what I am working for.
This time around I used Ampro style and jam to sleek my hair back with a boar bristle brush. I have spoken about this product before and I am still not a big fan of it. It has mineral oil as one of it's main ingredients. But I did not get to buy more gel(it finished on Saturday), so I had to improvise :( After next week I should be back on the anti-mineral oil train....I really do hate it. But hopefully a week of it won't kill me. Once again, not intending to pull this style out until Saturday or Sunday next week.

Protective style this week
Sunday after my deep condition, I allowed my hair to air dry, then used my blow dryer with a comb attachment on low heat to blow it out in sections. After using the blow dryer on a section, I would install small rope twists with freehand parting, then move on to another section. When my whole head was filled with little twists, I flat twisted them all to the middle of my head and pinned them in place with bobby pins. This is a style that could probably last me 2 weeks or more, But, as I said earlier, not pushing myself too far right now, plus I intend to do a henna treatment come this Sunday.

Deep condition and face mask results
Ok, so I told you about my deep condton and face mask this morning. Well they turned out great. My face feels really smooth right now and my hair feels like silk. Definitely something to be tried. Update on the hair length too...COLLAR BONE!!!! Yay. My regimen is certainly working so I am going to stick to it. I measured my hair last night and it varied fron 4 and a half inches to 5 and a half inches. Hair growth rate is picking up too, must be the biotin. It's all coming together now(big smile). When I get my camera I am going to post pics to record the growth.
Wash day, deep condition and face mask
Hey guys, I won over my hand in hair syndrome, though by a compromise. Lol. Instead of washing tomorrow I washed today. I did a moisture deep conditioner instead of henna. I am going to do my henna treatment next weekend. For my deep conditioner today, I used VO5 Moisture Milk Strawberries and Cream conditioner, about 2 oz., 1 tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of EVCO. I still have it in now, going to let it stay in for about an hour maybe two then rinse it and let my hair dry. I am also trying something new today. I mixed 1 tablespoon of Hesh amla powder and 1 tablespoon of honey with about 2 drops of coconut oil and put it on my face. Makes it really hot. Going to leave it on for 30 minutes then rinse it off with some warm water. The honey is said to smooth the complexion while giving the skin a glow, while the amla is a natural cleanser and will get rid of dead skin. Can't wait to see my face when I wash it off.

YouTube - Chris Brown & Benny Benassi - Beautiful People
This Video gives me that "good feeling". You know? That one where you just forget all your problems and have a natural high just running through your body? I must say Chris Brown did it good with this one. Though I had tried to keep malice due to the Rihanna situation...But that is their business. I just care about his talent.

Going Natural Transitioning from Relaxed Hair Without Cutting
this article is a good run down on transitioning. A good read for a person that has just started their transition or is thinking about doing it.

Hand in Hair syndrome. ARRGHH!!!!
Sigh, I am really proud of myself and all that, really. For moving from washing my hair everyday and constantly combing it, etc...to actually being able to keep a style for a whole week(roll eyes). But, I am soooo itching to pull my hair out right now. I want to go run it under the shower and give it a co-wash. But this girl is going to suffer. lol, because I am NOT, I repeat Not(trying to convince myself) going to pull this hair out until wash day...or the day before...at least.... Can't wait to get my camera! I feel tortured not being able to put up any pictures yet.
My Spritzer
I had to refill my spritzer(mister) bottle today. I filled it mainly with water and then put about a tablespoon of coconut oil in it. I think my spritzer bottle is a 8 oz. bottle. I absolutely love spritzing my hair and if I was supposed to stop doing that. I would be really worried for the health of my hair. I believe that my spritzer is a very important part of my regimen and that if I was supposed to stop or do it only like every two weeks, my hair would break. I just finished watching a video by UtubeHairCare and she gave a story about a classmate she had whose hair was always ear length when she had a relaxer, then soon after she switched over to a jerri curl, her hair grew to APL! She said she believes it's due to the constant moisture in the girl's hair and I second that. But, will add that more than likely there was also less manipulation involved. Anywhoses!!! I LOVE MY SPRITZER!! I would not give it up for anything, not that there is a need to. It's cheap to do and it works. I think all a spritzer needs is some distilled water and a good oil like jojoba or coconut oil. More fandangles are great, but not sure if they are needed. I haven't tried any other mixes yet though, so I can't be knocking stuff I haven't tried. Lol. I may consider in the future, getting some other natural oils to add...or shea butter?
What's in your spritzer?

I feel the hair love coming on
I am really starting to feel better about my hair. Every time I have a shampoo session, i feel the hair bond. Is their such a thing? Lol. Because that is the only way that I can think of to describe it. I have a little travel mirror that I put on the window, so that after I rinse out the shampoo, detangle with conditioner or rinse out the conditioner, I can look at my hair in it. It is a bit odd..but I can't help it. I have my hair goal of long natural hair running through my head all the time and everyday I smile at knowing that I am a day closer to my dream, though I may not be achieving it for another few years. I think about my big chop and how I had felt. I think of all the times I had looked at a beautiful relaxed head and asked myself if I made the wrong choice. All the frustrated hours spent in the mirror wondering what on earth to do with the intimidating shrinkage of a puff on my head and then I think of the mind set I have now, the admiration I feel come over me whenever I look at my hair in the mirror, the hurt I feel when I see my curls stretch too much when wet and know that I have come a long way. I have embraced me for who I am what I want to be. I feel the love each time I rub my fingers over the new growth coming in, thinking that I will protect them as well as I can. So that one day, all my texlaxed ends will be gone. I will be a fully tightly curly head and I will be natural and free.
My Protective Style for the week and my henna treatment last weekend
So,my protective style for this week was surely an experiment. But It worked! I parted my hair in half from ear to ear. I put two cornrows going to the middle of my head in the back. Then I parted the front into 3 equal sections. The two side parts were done in four small cornrows each and in the middle I did two flat twist. After I did all of that. I pinned up all the ends in the middle. It is a very cute style and still looks good. I am confident it will last until Sunday coming...maybe even longer. But i have hand in hair syndrome and will have to break out of that slowly. Until then i will stick to weekly styling.
HENNA TREATMENT
Did another one Sunday, this time I only mixed it with water and pure coconut oil. Amazingly, it worked just as well. My hair was shiny and healthy with a rich color when I was done.
I have just two complaints about henna so far. The first is that it takes sooooooo long to wash it out and then after all of that...everytime I scratch my head there is henna particles
under my nails up to this day!!! lol. But, I have to say I still love henna.

Going Natural and acceptance.
I was just thinking about all the times i had tried to go natural and the reasons I had failed....and it has brought me to realize something. When going natural it is important to be strong, know the reason for what your doing and be strong in your decision.
I have tried to go natural several times. The first time I was 18. I had done the big chop after sporting loc extensions for a month. My friends and family laughed at me and said I was crazy. My boyfriend at the time had a sour face towards it.Everyone complained about how better I had looked with hair and asked what the hell I was going to do with it in the state that it was in when I am going out. I felt very depressed and unattractive, until i dyed it blonde. This comfort only lasted awhile though, because I had a "friend" who would constantly tell me how crazy she thinks I am for cutting my hair and kept telling me I was going to relax again soon when I regret going natural. She was right in some way. I broke under the pressure and got a texturizer, which eventually turned into a relaxer. I did this in the hope of being accepted again..and I was. But I did not feel good in myself, because I still wanted to be "naturally me". I wished I could be accepted for who I am and how I was born. Not as what everyone else expected of me and were willing to accept.
I went natural again about 6 months after that, and stayed natural for a year. Creamed again due to lack of knowledge on how to take care of my hair and the same acceptance issue.
It has now been 11 months since my last big chop. I texlaxed my hair last month due to frustration and impatience with fairy knots. But this time I am confident about what I want to achieve and am willing to go through any struggles I may face to get it. Pleasing people is not always the best choice. Especially when it comes to your own image. Go for what YOU WANT and not what they expect. Because in the end if you want it bad enough, you will always go back to it. Not being accepted is just a hurdle to cross. Do not let it be a set back like I did.
Funny enough the people who were my set backs in my hair journey are now no longer in my life. Just the way they reacted to my choice was a peek at what they really were to me. My family have now come to accept my choice, because they love me. But if someone or some persons are continuously criticizing your choice..they mean you no good anyway. Only you hold the key to your dreams, so you determine what doors you want to enter.
I had Started A Hair Diary On May 2, 2011, But I will be Doing My Journey Here as of Now on, So i am going to blog all of what i had written so far, then just continue here after.
MAY 02,2011
Did a semi-dust today. I did cornrows straight back and then used my Annie hair scissors to dust the ends of each cornrow. I also mixed aloe vera, infusium 23 and water in my mister to use as a leave-in. I sealed with Creme of Nature Argan Oil spray.
NOTES
For present style= cornrows. Spray with aloe vera and infusium leave-in, then seal with Creme of Nature Argan Oil. Wear du-rag to bed at night. When going on the road use a beanie to cover the back...cause it doesn't look right. lol.
HAIR CONDITION AT PRESENT DATE
Texlaxed on Friday, April 29 2011 and that seems to have made my hair a lot more susceptible to breakage. Can't believe I texlaxed after being natural for 10 months. Fairy knots made me cave-in. Makes my end easier to manage though. So I need to get back it's strength, then my hair will be growing like weed :) I will be dusting my hair every two months until December ; then I will decide if i want to keep doing that or adjusting to a wider time frame.
Vitamins(supplements being taken)
1.GNC High Potency Biotin 5000 mcg
2. One-a-Day Womens
3.Seven Seas Fish Oil
I intend to try out a silica supplement.
FUTURE HAIR PLANS
I plan to practice protective styling as often as possible, because I am aiming to grow my hair as long as possible, and as healthy as possible. My hair is not yet able to be caught in one properly; much more to be put in a bun. So, my current protective styles will be cornrows with the ends pinned up, wash and goes with headbands(need to find silk headbands before i do that often, seeing that the ones I have at the moment snag my hair), and that's it until my hair gets longer. When doing wash and goes as my protective style, I will wash my hair once that week with Creme of Nature Detangling Conditioning shampoo and while doing cornrows I will wash my hair on that month, unless I break it with wash and goes.
NOTES
1. Aloe makes my hair shed less and gives it great moisture.
2. Infusium 23 makes my hair strong.
3. Creme of Nature Argan oil gives my hair great shine, is very light and SMELLS AWESOME!
4. Hello Hydration Conditioner is very conditioning and smells really great, especially when sealed with the argan oil in wash and goes.
5.My wash and goes can be refreshed everyday by just spraying with conditioner and water mixed, finger styling, the sealed with argan oil.
(NEED A BOTTLE OF EVCO FOR DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENT)
6. I am going to start deep conditioning with keracare essential oils and a shower cap before shampoos; until i get my EVCO.
7. When dusting, I will only dust the tips of my cornrows which will be done from the front of my head straight back to my nape against my scalp. I want to eventually have a bob cut when all my hair has grown down past my neck.
TODAYS CHALLENGE
Keep present cornrows until the 20th of May.
May 3,2011
NOTE ADJUSTMENT
Deep condition AFTER shampooing, not before, then rinse and style.
1. Sprayed cornrows with aloe, water and infusium 23 mix, then sealed with Creme of Nature Argan oil. I am in the house today so i retied it with my du-rag which i slept in last night.
My cornrows seem to look neat as long I keep spraying, sealing and tying them down daily.
(BEANIES NEEDED, WHETHER i AM GOING TO MAKE THEM OR BUY THEM)
STYLE IDEAS
1. Stylish cornrows to the side with curly faux pony. I might try it one day.
2. Plaits(as large as can be done) with ends rodded. Air dry for about a day, then pull it out gently with some oil and "head-band" (protective style).
NOTES
To secure hair, interlock two hairpins in opposite directions.
HAIR THOUGHTS
I feel a bit better about my hair now, because it is no longer "boyish", I just have two desires now:
1. For my hair to grow thick and healthy.
2. For it to grow to waist length.
After that, Longer if possible (not pushing it). I plan to achieve this over a long term period, by clipping the very ends of my hair (1-2cm) every 2 months only in the back. I have done this once so far and it will be due again on July 2 2011. I do not intend to clip anymore than that. Just dusting. I am aware that by doing this, eventually the back of my hair will have it's fully natural texture, while the top ends might be a bit texlaxed, until the hair is all even. What i may do is whne a layer at the bottom becomes fully natural, i will part it out and and continue the process on the rest of the hair. I will only do this if the texture difference is obvious.
NOTE
Cornrow are now a bit slack in the back, I have to ensure that I sleep with the du-rag on everynight and not be too touchy-feely with my hair. Going to spray the cornrows with aloe and infusium mix, seal with argan oil and then use the du-rag and the tam to see if I will get a greenhouse effect :O
May 04 2011
Did the usual this morning with a little extra. I sprayed my cornrows with aloe, infusium and water mist. After that I tried out a new product on my edges, Ampro style n jam..kind oily. I then sealed my hair ends with the argan oil mister. Threw my rd beanie on and I was out of the house.
HAIR CONDITION AT PRESENT DATE
The condition of my hair is basically the same as yesterday. The cornrows are slack. But if I keep touching to a minimum and cover my hair as often as possible, it will get to May 20th mark. The beanie and the cornrows look quite cute actually, as I think I had mentioned before.
NOTES
For deep conditioning treatments, try coconut milk instead of the oil to see if it can be a good substitute.
May 09, 2011
Well...The cornrows didn't last till the 20th. For that matter, it only lasted until May 05, reason being they were too mushy , unraveling and not very attractive looking. I plan to have another cornrow challenge though...In the mean time my hair is in a wash n go right now. I co-wash, defined and sprayed with argan oil while wet. Not sure if this specific wash n go method works long term yet, but i will see. Just started Monday, I am not sure if water can provide enough moisture . My headbands were ripping out my hair, so I stopped using them. I cut th ties off of my du-rag to make a head-tie. It works, but now i have to get another du-rag :(
LENGTH CHECK
I think the longest part of my hair right now is 4 inches.I am not cutting a bit off of it, until maybe July 02. But at this moment I think I might be postponing that date. Maybe until December 02?
May 10, 2011
This morning misted my hair with my usual, then instead of using The Creme of Nature Argan Oil mister to seal, I used the Keracare essential oil instead. After that i used ampro styling gel to put my hair into a high puff like thing, my head band stopped about 2 inches from my hair line.
May 11, 2011
Sprayed my hair with water, rubbed some keracare essential oil in, then brushed it up in that semi puff thing again with the ampro styling gel.
Haven't washed my hair since May 09, will try not to wash it until Saturday,May 14. I will just keep refreshing this style until then. Might keep doing this every week, it's low manipulation.
The cornrows are too, but my hair tends to break while doing them. Need a softer brush for smoothing though The brown brush i have feels very course on my hair. Can't wait to get some length, at least it is ALMOST able to be caught in one when i use styling gel.
NOTE
I will keep using the du-rag strings until they deteriorate(lol), they actually look good, keep my hair well and best of all don't snag.
May 16 2011
Cornrowed the front of my hair yesterday(Sunday),then put medium sized plaits in the back. I used hairpins to secure the plaits from my neck(protective style). The pinned up plaits look a little funny, so I will cover them with my beanie(need to get different colors like black, blue, black n pink and red n pink). It looks good and the cornrows to the front look nice. I call them freestyles, because there was no plan to them. Should do freestyle cornrows more often...I will.
The last two times I washed my hair, I did co-washes with Hello Hydration conditioner. I have started using an applicator bottle to oil my scalp with Keracare essential oils.I will do it every night as of now and adjust as needed in the near future, if necessary.
<3 LOVE <3 my Tangle Teezer a.k.a TT
Still May 16, 2011
Bought a new product today at the pharmacy in Winchester Business Center that I am extremely excited about. It's Taliah Waajids Protective Bodifying Mist Medicated Formula. The front says it stops itching & minor scalp irritations, moisturizes & conditions, soothes scalp on contact, softens for manageability and coats hair & stops breakage...cool huh? I'm really excited about it. Bought it for $832 +tax (Jamaican dollars). I will use it and document my experience. Forgot to mention that it smells awesome! This very sweet smell with a hint of coconut.
May 31 2011
Haven't written here in awhile. So, there's a few updates.
1. Did my first henna treatment with Jamila Henna for hair on May 25, 2011(Wednesday). My hair strands got a bit thicker and my slightly bleached ends turned burgundy :0
2. Did my second henna treatment on May 29 (Sunday). Hair strand actually got even thicker and burgundy got a bit darker.
3. Started putting coconut oil with amla on y scalp also on the 29th of May, it's supposed to make hair grow faster. Just checking it out.
4, Wrapped the back of my hair for the first time yesterday, May 30, and secured the wrap with hair pins. The front is not able to be caught, so installed four cornrows there and pinned the ends onto th wrap.
5. The Taliah Waajid spray makes my scalp tingly and my hair feels so soft. I like it. But most of the time I use water to spray my hair and coconut oil (Parachute brand presently) to seal.
NEW REGIMEN
Sunday-detangle dry hair in sections with Tangle Teezer, then apply henna. After 4 or so hours, wash hen out with Creme of Nature detanglinng conditioning shampoo, then condition with Hello Hydration(thinking of switching over to Moisture milks strawberries and creme, seeing that it's cheaper and is said to work very well) then detangle again and allow to air dry. When hair is about 98% dry, create desired style for the week , ensuring to pin up any hair that come in contact with clothes.
NOTE
Heard putting a chopped onion in your shampoo makes your hair grow faster, wondering if I should try it.
NEW REGIMEN CONTINUED...
Mon- Fri- tie hair with du-rag at nights. Spray with water and coconut oil or Taliah Waajid mist in the morning and in the night.
Sat- wear loose hair with headband if so desired.
VITAMIN UPDATE
Still taking the GNC Biotin 5000 and the womens' One-a-Day. I ran out of sevenseas fish oil, plan to get it back soon. I ordered two bottles of horsetail grass(a form of silica). Will record the date I started. Some people claim to get like 2 inches of growth every month when taking horsetail. This!!!.....we shall prove or disapprove.
CURRENT HAIR CONDITION
Thicker ad stronger with not much shedding and breakage(that i am aware of).
HAIR ACCESSORIES TO GET
1.Banana Clip
2.Scarves
3.Headbands
4.Hats
CURRENT HAIR LENGTH
At the moment my hair length varies from 3 and a half inches to 4 and a half inches. Aiming to grow at least 2 and a half inches in the next 5 months(by October). So i will protective style each week until then.
OK!! So that is all I had wrote so far in the hair journal, and as of now, i will do all my journal entries on this blog. Thank you soo much for reading. Hope you will check for updates.I am aiming to update everyday :)
Hair products I currently own
I am going to give a list of the products I currently own from the oldest to most recent, what I use each for (if I use it at all) and my views on them. Here it goes:
1. INFUSIUM 23 Pro-vitamin Leave in hair treatment for relaxed permed or color treated hair
I originally got this because I was reading up on the Crown and Glory method and had decided to use braids to grow my short natural hair. The method recommended this product as a leave-in while wearing the braids. I only had the first set of braids for 2 weeks seeing that they got really fuzzy, and i never got the second set. lol. But,INFUSIUM 23 seems to be a good leave-in, i use it occasionally (like once a month) and it does seem to help my hair. When this bottle is done i will not be replacing it though. Found a great replacement which I will be writing on somewhere below.
2.MOTIONS CPR Triple Action leave-in conditioner for all hair textures
I love the smell of this product. It has a soft, yet sweet fragrance. I bought this when i was trying to incorporate moisture into my regimen. But, it has hydrolyzed protein in it. It made my hair feel really soft after i put it in, but even if i seal it, it tends to dry out easily.
Will not be replacing product when finished.
3.Mango and Lime Locking Gel
This gel I had gotten to twist my natural hair. I love the fruity smell of it and the consistency is between buttery and jelly. Makes my hair feel really nice and gives good hold when dry. This product is a keeper especially for twists, that is all i will be using it for.
4.TAP TRESS TRANZITIONS blow dry straightening lotion
I have had this product since last year. But I just started using it about 2 months now. I can not testify for it's straightening abilities, seeing that i use my blow dryer on the lowest setting just to make my hair more manageable for weekly styling. What i can say is that it makes my sections very easy to detangle before blow drying and seems to protect my hair well. It has a creamy consistency. When it is done, I intend to get the Tressemme Heat Tamer simply because it is in a mister bottle and also protects well.
5. Ampro Pro Styl styling gel
This protein gel is not greasy, has no alcohol and doesn't flake in my hair. I use it for slicking my hair and it does a good job. But, when it is done i want to try the brown eco-styler gel.
6. Ampro PRO STYL Shine n Jam
I don't like this product...it's very greasy, does not slick well and has mineral oil. It was given to me by my mom, and i will not be getting another one..Not even sure what to do with the rest of it :/
7.Creme of Nature Argan Oil Gloss and Shine Mist
I love the scent of this oil mister and i use to use it to seal, but there are like 4 cones in it and i have become weary, i really don't want to do anything to harm my hair. So what i am not sure of, I will try to avoid.
8. TALIAH WAAJID Protective Mist Bodifier Medicated formula
This so far, is my favorite product! I think it definitely does what it says on the bottle. Which is; stops itching and minor scalp irritations, moisturizes and conditions, soothes scalp on contact, softens for manageability and coats hair and stops breakage. It does make my scalp look good, makes my hair way easier to de-tangle and appears to make it stronger, not to mention that it moisturizes and seals. I mix it with water to make it last longer. So far i have had it for almost a month and it's now at the quarter bottle mark. Certainly intend to get another bottle.
9. Parachute 100% Pure Coconut oil
I love coconut oil, so it doesn't really matter the brand. As long as it's pure.
I like to mix this with water in a mister bottle to refresh my hair or sometimes when I detangle I will use it on my ends. Also I use it as a pre-poo and it works lovely.
10.Tangle Teezer
I have heard mixed reviews about this product. But I will have to stick with my results. Since i have been using the Tangle Teezer I have been retaining more length. I can see myself using this for the rest of my life. It makes detangling a breeze and works well on both dry and wet hair. It's also great for smoothing product onto the hair strands. I really do love the Tangle Teezer.
Well, those are the products I have so far, but look out for new product reviews and please comment so i can know your views on the products too!

My Hair History Continued
About a month after I had started watching YouTube videos and reading online, I had the second BC. It started off as a Mohawk, then i started trimming the middle bit by bit. Until I ended up with another boy cut. This time I accepted the look better and did not feel the need for a spruce up with color or anything else..except earrings, eyeshadow, and some lip gloss. These items paired with the cut are a perfect picture. This cut happened July of last year and i am now going on almost a year since then.
I made one last mistake last month and i have started this blog, to ensure that nothing like that ever happens again... I had another texturizer, or whatever you would like to call Dr. Miracle's regular relaxer with a good amount of coconut oil mixed in. It has relaxed my curls a bit. So, now i will have to consider my self a person in transition, as i have absolutely no intentions of chopping again. But all intent, to be a natural and one day have natural long hair.
I will be getting a camera soon, then i will be updating this blog with pictures along with posts very often. Because i want to share my journey. So that it will be known that no matter how your journey starts or how many hurdles had to be crossed...the hair of your dreams can be achieved. I intend to get mine.

My Hair History
The Young Days
As a child growing up, my mother never really had any time to comb my hair herself. So the duty was handed over to my youngest aunt, who would comb my hair from root to ends. Which would have seemed like the right thing to do at the time (I know better now), but hurt my scalp oh so badly! This made me cry through almost all sessions and needless to say my aunt was not very pleased about that which made me feel even worst. Due to this I had the conclusion that my hair was not a good thing at all.
Anyway, due to this daily torture, I begged, as in literally begged my mother to let me get a relaxer at the age of 7. She debated a bit, but fell through and i got my way. I was sooo happy. My hair was now silky straight and a littlE below shoulder length. Which to me at the time was reaching heaven(sigh).
I was now quite pleased with my hair and got into the habit of combing my hair in the mirror and smiling to my self, pleased with what i was seeing. After the relaxer i started to comb my hair myself. My main style was letting out the lower half and ponying the top.I was elated to not have to have my aunt comb my natural hair anymore and she also seemed very relieved.
This is when the clipping started. Each time i went for a relaxer, i noticed they always used a scissor on my ends. This made me very sad, for i had the impression that starting the process of relaxing my hair I was going to eventually have long hair down my back "LIKE THE WHITE PEOPLE". So to see my hair get shorter with each relaxer was very unnerving to my young mind. But at that age, i never thought of going back to natural, I thought it was impossible, as silly as that may sound and I did not want to go back to having hair that "COULD NOT GROW".
This continued up until high school, where i became fascinated by locs. A fellow student in my dance group had the most beautiful locks i had ever seen and they made her look so stunning, that i could not help but want them too. I was not willing to go through the transition to locs though, i just wanted them to miraculously appear with length on my head. lol. I was such a silly child.
But, when i graduated high school, i had the loc extensions put in in order to get my locs....I didn't like them, after spending JA$18,000. They were the wrong color, stiff and looked obviously fake. I was looking for miracle extensions, so i was really not a happy camper. I was told to be patient and they wiould get softer and look more realistic. So, i waited and slowly they started to look more like messy extensions. A month after they were done, i chopped them off right at their starting point, and behold my first big chop was born.
I cried my eyes out. My hair was short and i looked like a boy(or so I thought). I did not want to go out of the house for anyone to see me, and my relatives were laughing at me, calling me crazy. But, I eventually decided to embrace my new hair cut, and how i planned to do that was by going blonde. I was really not informed about hair at the time and just went out and bought a platinum blonde by Dark and Lovely. I went back home, put it in my hair and...wow...i was suddenly exotic looking, and i loved it!...until it started growing out. The sides were puffy and short, my head looked funny and i did not know what to do with it apart from washing it EVERYDAY and leaving it dry. This is when i got my first "texturizer" . I didn't want to go back to a relaxer and I was of the impression that a texturizer would just make my natural hair softer...Boy was i wrong.
I got the soft and beautiful kid's relaxer and my hair felt awesome. It was sooo soft and curly. I loved it and figured it would all be easy from there. But the fact still remained that i was not very knowledgeable about caring for my hair. So I did all the wrong things. I almost never moisturized and was always oiling. Looking back, I really can't believe i did that. Needless to say, my hair eventually became very dry and brittle. This is when i went back to a relaxer. My hair was very short, to the point where i did not even have a bang. The longest hair in the front of my head, would have been about 1/2 an inch, if that much. Once again, i hated my choice. I would glue extensions in the front to create bangs and this was a little cute, but the glue was ripping my hair despite me using oil to take it out. So I had to stop this. At this point, two more big chops were in my future. At this pint two more BCs were in my future.
The first one happened when my relaxer got trashy and horrible looking. Of course, due to my lack of knowledge. The second one happened after i had started watching hair videos on YouTube and doing my Google research. I was amazed at the wealth of information about taking care of natural hair online and had started utilize the tips i had learnt. The first thing did was get a bottle of of Virgin Coconut oil. I started doing Bantu knots on my relaxed hair and my hair looked really shiny and healthy. At this point i was using water for moisture and sealing with the coconut oil. I had become fascinated again with natural hair and made a promise not to ever relax again...
look out for the rest of the story.
